To Buy Or Not To Buy?

Why should fools have money in hand to buy wisdom,
when they are not able to understand it?
Prov.17.16

Buy the truth and do not sell it—
wisdom, instruction and insight as well.
Prov. 23.23

When I read these 2 passages in TNIV, the first says to me that I'm wasting money buying books, because I dont understand or have the time to read most of them. Yet the second passage pushes me to keep buying and buying. So, how????

My funny conversation with Zhen Hao about this dilemma:

zhenhao says:
probaby then its a sign that you should stop buying ..

Joshua says:
but the bible says "Buy the truth and do not sell it—wisdom, instruction and insight as well."

Joshua says:
so how?

Joshua says:
should i listen to u or the bible?

zhenhao says: wah ... you put me in a tricky position

zhenhao says: of course, you must listen to the bible.

Joshua says: so, u mean i hav to keep buying lar?

zhenhao says: see how you interpret the bible

zhenhao says: although you dont understand now, you will understand in the future

zhenhao says: so when you understand, you would not be a fool anymore ..

zhenhao says: so it appears that you should continue buying

Joshua says: wow lau eh..

Joshua says: that assumed i will understand in the future la... and if ur assumption is not right, then I will be wrong...

Joshua says: then I would failed to follow the bible...

The bible didn't tell you to buy so many books. It's your assumption that Prov. 23.23 is about buying books which you can't understand or have no time to digest.

I say, Prov. 23.23 may even be applied to how you donated RM200 to the election campaign fund of DAP. Your money is translated into posters and ceramahs and actions taken to promote the truth in the Parliament of Malaysia.
